JEAN JONES RUN/WALK FOR CANCER
Dr. Jean Jones was the former director of the University Counseling Center. She was the first female director in the division of Student Affairs. While at Ole Miss, she was involved in many aspects of student life. Dr. Jones battled breast cancer bravely, but in 1997, the cancer won the war.
The Jean Jones Walk/Run for Cancer is a memorial walk for Dr. Jones, and an event to honor others who have been touched by cancer and bring awareness to the community. On April 10, 2010, we will have our 12th Annual Jean Jones Walk/Run for Cancer.
The event has been very successful in previous years, and we at the University Counseling Center are quite sure that year will be no different. The race will begin in front of the Union, and walkers will complete a 2-mile walk around campus, with runners completing a 5K track, also around campus. The route for this year’s race is the same as it has been in past runs.
There is a $25 entry fee for individuals, and a $15 entry fee for groups of 5 or more. The entry fee provides you a t-shirt and admittance into the race. Proceeds go to the Dr. Jean Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Baptist Hospital Cancer Institute Patient Assistance Fund of Oxford.
