FIG TESTIMONIALS

Check out what these students have to say about our freshman interest groups!

"The FIG was a great place for me to get my feet on the ground as an out-of-state student and to learn when and where to get involved, especially through the help of my RA. Not only were we able to get involved around campus, but also our FIG floor has created an unmatched community, from living on the same floor to going on trips with everybody, which has been awesome to have." -Phillip, Cypress, TX

"The FIG has helped me grow as a person. My favorite part of the program was the class with Sparky Reardon. Everyone in that class grew very close, and I made friends that will last for a lifetime. I would encourage everyone to be part of the best groups on campus, the FIGs."
-Hannah Katherine, Purvis, MS

"I am so thankful that I got to be a part of the Foundations FIG. Transitioning to college can be a challenge, but, on the FIG trips, I had the opportunity to bond with everyone and meet some of the greatest people I've met at Ole Miss. Because of the Foundations FIG, I see myself as more of a leader and hope to apply what I've learned when I become an Resident Assistant sophomore year."
-Karina, Orlando, FL

"I enjoyed my FIG because it put me with similiar people, and it started my freshman year with people I could call my friends. FIG activities allowed me to build on the qualities I already had while allowing me to work on the ones I didn't. I would recommend this to any freshman because its a great way to start your first year of college!!"
-Collin, Norton, OH

"As an incoming freshman, I was worried about making new friends, being involved in the Oxford community, and maintaining a high GPA. The FIG program gave me a chance to do all of those things. I was able to meet and become great friends with many of the people in the program, volunteer in the community, and I make the Chancellor's Honor Roll. The FIG program truly promotes leadership and academic excellency while exposing its members to new situations. I think everyone should consider being a part of a FIG because it is a program that will make the transition into college more easily, and it is something that will have a lasting effect on your time here at Ole Miss!"
-Kimberly, Vicksburg, MS

"I really enjoyed being a part of the FIG program. It allowed me to meet and befriend people I probably would have never met otherwise. Some of the people I met will be my friends for a long time."
-Molly, Roswell, GA

The freshman interest group was a very beneficial experience for me. I formed bonds with alot of people that will last a lifetime. The FIG also helped me develop leadership fundamentals that will help me in the near future when I become a Resident Assistant in the fall semester.

"My most memerable moment with my FIG is when we took a trip to Memphis, Tennessee, to see the place where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. It was my first time ever going to the musuem, and when I left I was touched because many people during that time period risked their lives so that we wouldn't have to struggle."

-Tisha, Americus, GA

"I believe applying for FIG is a great decision. As a FIG member, I had the opportunity to live on the same floor with students of similar interests, and I made many good friends. Also, I feel so lucky to get to know our EDHE teacher, Sparky, who is our dean of student affairs. Sparky is a funny and awesome teacher--you can definitely learn a lot from him.  I am just so glad that I am part of the FIG!"

"Being a part of Freshman Interest Group has been a life-changing step for me. As an international student with an accent, I would always allow my accent to be a barrier for me to make friends and relate to people. However, as I spent more time with my peers from my FIG, wonderful RAs, faculty and staff of Ole Miss, I gradually let myself loose and never again stopped myself from being the friendly girl I had always been. FIGs are places to build years of friendship and service to one another. Having a team of dedicated people such as the Dean of Students, Dr. Sparky Reardon; Charles Allen of Campus Recreation; Ashley Guinn Taylor and Kurt Lee from housing and residence life; Residence Hall Director Baylea Blough; and a host of others to guide you academically, morally, socially, and in all aspects of life, you are sure to be in safe hands.
