Honors College LLC

Statement of Purpose

The Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College LLC will provide a positive transition to college life for first-year Honors students and mentorship opportunities for upperclassmen who seek to become citizen scholars: fired by the life of the mind, committed to the public good, and driven to find solutions. Through collaboration and conversation, students of the Honors LLC will develop lasting relationships and enjoy a wide range of social and community action activities with their Honors peers. Students living in the Honors LLC will also have opportunities to work together and get involved in ways that will directly benefit the larger community.

Residence Hall Assignment

Students in the Honors College LLC will live on the ground, first, and second floors in Ridge South .

Application Information

First-year Honors students are eligible to reside in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College LLC. No other application besides the Housing application and the Special Programs application (used to apply for admission to the SMBHC) is required. Students will use their assigned housing selection time slot to choose a bed space in the Honors LLC. Spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. First-year honors students are not required to live in the Honors LLC, and some may choose to live in another setting like the residential colleges, Global Perspecitves LLC, or STEM LLC. The Honors LLC is not available to non-honors students.

Foster discussion among the students regarding common classwork/readings/events
Become knowledgeable about campus resources and services

Create goodwill and sharp minds through community action activities

Community Structure

Membership in the Honors LLC is contingent upon acceptance into the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College as well as continued membership throughout the given academic year.

Community Activities

Potential Honors LLC activities will include: visits/talks from Honors faculty and staff, social gatherings, intramural sports, community service, and workshops on student success skills.
