The School of Education Living-Learning Community provides a residential environment that fosters academic and social success for female students interested in elementary education. Regular contact with education faculty and formal activities, such as tutoring and study groups in core subjects, will offer students the tools to succeed in this field. Social events will enrich the atmosphere in the residential community and nurture the development of life-long relationships with peers.
Residence Hall Assignment
Students in the Education LLC will live on the second floor in Minor Hall (formerly Ridge West).
Desired Program Outcomes

Enjoy positive first-year experiences as Education LLC members

Develop relationships with students, staff, faculty, and mentors that facilitate learning beyond the classroom

Foster study groups and discussions among students regarding common class work, reading, and events

Community Structure
Membership in the Education LLC is contingent upon registration as a freshman in the School of Education as well as continued membership in the school throughout the given academic year.Â
Community Activities
Activities will be determined by the students who choose to live in the Education LLC in conjunction with the faculty mentor, who will facilitate activities and serve as a resource to the community. These activities may include (but are not limited to):

Small group meetings with School of Education faculty and distinguished visitors

Career events and opportunities to meet and monitor educators currently in the field

Seminars to learn more about teacher certification requirements

Bulletin board competitions

Lesson plan workshops

Unit By Design workshops

Mentoring program pairing freshman LLC students with upperclassmen

Programming designed to enhance academic success (e.g., time management, lesson plan management, study skills, academic advising)
