Residence Life Conduct Board
For information please contact Natalia Fernandez at 915-4522 or ndfernan@olemiss.edu.
The purpose of the Residence Life Conduct Board will be to give students who are documented in the residence halls a chance to have their case heard by a panel of their peers.
Hearing Panel: The panel will consist of 5 members. Eligibility for a panel member will be determined by the following two qualifications.
1. The student must have been an on campus resident for at least 1 semester
2. The student must not have any current judicial cases
Members will be selected during the first two weeks of the semester and have training. The panel will begin to hear cases throughout the academic year. Training will consist of a full day of learning about judicial philosophies, differences between student conduct and the legal system, hearing process training, FERPA, finding of responsibility and sanctions and active listening and questioning techniques.
Hearing Process: The student in violation will meet with a Residence Hall Director (RHD) for a pre-hearing. The student will be informed of the judicial process and asked whether he/she would like to have the case heard by a panel of their peers. If the answer is yes, the case will be referred to the panel for the hearing. The student will have the opportunity to tell their side of the story to the panel and the panel will then decide if the student is in "violation" or "not in violation" using a "preponderance of evidence." If the student is found in violation the panel will assign sanctions.
