Statement of Purpose
The Well is an engaged community that fosters balanced living through academic and personal journeys of wellness. In The Well, students work to cultivate and maintain healthy lifestyles as applicable to self, spirituality and community. In this community, students become more aware of their strengths and challenges in the dimensions of wellness such as spirituality, fitness and physical health, community wellness, emotional wellness and mental well-being.

Desired Learning Outcomes
- Students will understand various health and wellness topics.
- Students will understand the academic requirements and rigor required to be a first-year student.
- Students will commit to a substance-free environment.
- Students will develop intercultural awareness, understanding, and appreciation that are explored individually and collectively within the community.
- Students will understand appropriate healthy eating habits.
- Students will learn active lifestyle habits.
- Students will gain a better understanding of his/her personal strengths and qualities.
Community Structure
The following categories outline the main opportunities and expectations for The Well participants.
- Health & Wellness Education:Â Students will be provided various educational opportunities on the topics of health and wellness.Â
- Substance Free Education: Students will be committed to a substance-free lifestyle and also have opportunities to campaign for the lifestyle and educate others.
- Small Group Participation: Students will learn team dynamics and what an effective team needs to function efficiently. Students will be challenged in EDHE 105 and through service and leadership opportunities to collaborate within a team setting. Students will engage in active roles by planning a large scale camping events and other activities within the community.
- EDHE 105 Focus Course: This fall, the EDHE 105 course is required for all FIG students, unless restricted by majors or programs of study. If scheduling this required course causes an extreme conflict, exceptions will be granted on a case-by-case basis after review. Contact kurtlee@olemiss.edu for questions concerning this requirement. You will have the opportunity to have class with your FIG peers and be led by a staff mentor in your field of interest. Classroom space is tentatively scheduled within the Ridge complex where your FIG is housed. This course meets the requirements for three hours of University credit. Class time options for The Well FIG students are: 1pm T/TH, 4pm T/TH, or 2pm MWF.
