CAMPUS TELEPHONE DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE
Directory assistance is provided seven days a week on a twenty-four hour basis. Regular telephone operators are on duty from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. The automated directory assistance system answers calls after 5:00 p.m., weekends and holidays. To access the automated directory system, please follow the instructions noted below:
The name currently stored in the system is your "official" name. If you have a nickname that most people know you by, please send an e-mail to dirasst@olemiss.edu with your "official" name and the nickname. We will manually add the nickname to your record. By doing this, a person can ask for you by your nickname and the system should find you.
Dial 8411
The announcement will tell you to hold for the department directory (approximately 5 seconds) at which time it will ask you for the department you are trying to contact.
“Are you looking for ?” (Answer - yes or no)
If you answer "yes," the system will give you the phone number and then transfer you to the department.
If you answer "no," the system will tell you to speak the name again.
To contact a person
The name currently stored in the system is your "official" name. You will receive a welcome announcement from the system (you do not have to listen to the announcement – speak the name of the person during the announcement.
"Are you looking for(name of person)?
” (Answer - yes or no) If you answer “yes,” the system will transfer you to the person.
If you answer “no,” the system will tell you to speak the name again.
