Jennifer Mizenko, Associate Professor

Jennifer MizenkoJennifer has run the Theatre Department's dance program since 1989. Her duties include teaching jazz and modern technique classes, dance composition, dance appreciation, and, since 1999, movement for the actor. She also is Artistic Director of Mississippi: The Dance Company, the University's resident dance group. Jennifer has studied period dance with Wendy Hilton and Richard Powers and Tai Chi with Maggie Newman. In 2001, she received certification in the Alexander Technique at the Alexander Alliance in Philadelphia. She also certified as a Laban Movement Analyst at the Laban/Bartanieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York. She has studied dance with Eric Hawkins, Susan Van Pelt, Heywood "Woody" McGriff, Chet Walker, and Ralph Lemon. Jennifer has taught Master Classes throughout the South, and she has been recognized twice by the American College Dance Festival Association for outstanding choreography and performance. Jennifer now heads the movement program in the department, combining Alexander technique and Laban Movement Analysis in the training of actors. She has presented her teaching methods at international Alexander and Laban conferences in London; Oxford, England; Slovakia; and Italy. Jennifer holds an MA in dance from Ohio State University.
