Jim Shollenberger, Professor
Jim Spent 10 years working professionally as an actor and director in New York and up and down the West Coast. The majority of his acting work in California was in film. He completed an MA in Theatre at California State University, Sacramento, in 1973, then completed his PhD at the Ohio State University in 1977. He came to the University of Mississippi the following year as Director of Graduate Studies in the Theatre Department. In 1985, he became department Chair. In 1986, he co-founded the Festival of Southern Theatre and served as its Artistic Director for 12 years. During this time, the festival premiered nearly 40 new plays. Jim has served as an adjudicator for the American College Theatre Festival, the Southeastern Theatre Conference screening auditions, and for the Southeastern Theatre Conference Secondary School Play Festival. At the end of the 2002 academic year, he stepped down from the Chair to become the Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies. He also heads the department's film production/acting program, which has seen the completion of several feature length films utilizing department students on both sides of the camera.
