Jared Spears, Technical Director

Jared SpearsJared, a native of the Mississippi Delta, is a technical director, designer, and sculptor who received his MFA in Theatre Design from the University of Mississippi in 2005. He was resident designer for the Oxford Shakespeare Festival from 2004-2005. Jared has worked on national productions such as Ragtime at the Northshore Music Festival Theatre in Boston, and is currently designing for theatres in the Atlanta area, including the American Jewish Theatre of the South.

Jared was a co-recipient of the Mississippi Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2002. A video documentary featuring his traditional stone carving techniques is housed in the Rinzler Archives of the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Cultural Heritage and was featured as part of the 2005 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC. His sculpture and paintings are featured in private and public collections around the United States and he and his work have been featured in newspapers and magazines and on national television. Jared has illustrated college-level textbooks and is represented by Taylor Arts of Taylor, Mississippi, where he makes his home.
