Students choosing the BFA emphasis in musical theatre receive comprehensive training in vocal, dance, and performance styles—for everything from the "feel-good" confections of the 1920s to the darkest of modern concept musicals—and specialized actor training in all the major musical theatre styles. With at least two musical productions in every Ole Miss Theatre season, there are lots of opportunities to perform as well as train. Musical Theatre students are part of the Sophomore Studio, where they are team-taught by our expert faculty.

  • Musical Theatre students take three years of intensive actor training in a studio environment that emphasizes fusing internal process with external vocal and physical technique. In addition, students receive highly specialized training in the various styles of musical theatre performance. Special emphasis is placed on learning to treat both songs and dances as character-driven acting moments.
  • Musical theatre students receive four years of dance training, including tap, jazz, ballet, and theatre dance.
  • Students can receive both group and private voice training through the Voice Faculty in the Department of Music as spots are available.
  • In addition to the musicals that are a part of every mainstage season, musical theatre students have the opportunity to perform with Showstoppers, the department's resident musical theatre company, and Mississippi: The Dance Company, our concert dance group.
