New Student Orientation
August 2009
The sessions described below are mandatory for all students who will be beginning their first semester as theatre majors at Ole Miss. This includes incoming freshmen, transfers from other schools, and transfers to the theatre department from other departments at Ole Miss.
Residence Hall Students should plan on moving into their dormitories on Thursday, August 20. We have made arrangements with Housing for your early move-in.
9:30 a.m. Meek Hall AuditoriumMeeting with Dr. Jim Shollenberger to review department degree programs and receive an overview of co- and extra-curricular departmental and university activities of interest to theatre students within the department and the university as a whole.
11 a.m. Meek Hall Auditorium
Meeting with the department chair, Dr. Rhona Justice-Malloy, to review department policies and regulations found in the Department of Theatre Arts Handbook. Catered lunch to follow on the Meek Auditorium stage
1 p.m. Meek Hall Auditorium
Students will leave from Meek for a guided tour of theatre facilities and university facilities used by theatre students.
2 p.m. Isom Hall Room 100A: design, technical theatre and stage management students
Meeting with design/tech faculty to review curricular and co-curricular requirements
Students will be divided into small groups and each group will be assigned to a member of the performance faculty. Students must have at least one 60-second audition monologue prepared but are encouraged to have two or three. Your assigned faculty member will listen to the monologues you have prepared, tell you which is best for use on Saturday during the fall season audition, and work with you to improve your audition monologue. Students who are planning to sing in the audition should bring their sheet music with them to this workshop. (Complete information about the audition workshop can be found here.)

7:30 p.m. Callbacks for The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux (Fulton Chapel)
directed by Joe Turner Cantú
SUNDAY, AUGUST 23rd
1 p.m. Meek Hall Auditorium
Mandatory dance audition for all performance students and those students auditioning for Showstoppers or Mississippi: The Dance Company
3 p.m. (or whenever dance auditions are over) Callbacks for Showstoppers
directed and choreographed by René Pulliam and others (Fulton Chapel)
7 p.m. Callbacks for film, Part of the Heard (Fulton Chapel)
directed by Jim Shollenberger
