Journey of the Spirit
The Art of
Gwendolyn A. Magee
June 6 - August 27, 2006

Gwendolyn Magee explores several avenues of expression in her "quilts" -- from early pieces exploring traditional quilt patterns, to abstract fabric "paintings," to figurative works where she examines slavery, civil rights and racism. Several pieces were inspired by the hymn Lift Every Voice and Sing.

This exhibition is toured by the Mississippi Museum of Art, Jackson, with funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the Rock River Foundation. This venue of Journey of the Spirit was made possible through the generous assistance of The Friends of the Museum at The University of Mississippi.
