Crime Alert

UPDATE - Thursday, September 13, 2007

Subsequent to UPD’s issuance of a timely warning related to a “suspicious male report” yesterday [Wednesday, September 12], two Ole Miss students have contacted UPD to say they were the persons described in the crime alert as having been in the Northgate Apartment complex knocking on several doors on Tuesday, September 11. They explained they were looking for a friend’s apartment in the complex. They also indicated that one of their friends who had accompanied them told them he had peered into a window as he walked around the buildings. UPD has verified their account of this incident. The students expressed their regret that their actions served to alarm other students in the complex.

ALERT FROM UPD

Suspicious Male Report

Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at approximately 15:24 (3:24 p.m.), UPD received a report from a female student concerning two suspicious males around Northgate apartments.

According to the victim, she was sitting on her bed working on her computer when she heard a knock on her front door. When she got up to answer it she looked out the "peep hole" and saw two (2) black males standing there that she did not know. The victim stated that she was alone so she refused to open the door to them. She did not make a lot of noise or say anything to let them know that she was in the apartment. She went back into her bedroom (the blinds were open) and sat back down on her bed to start her work again the same males came around the corner of her apartment, stopped and looked into her bedroom window. The first male looked directly into her face and she stated they made eye contact. The second male was standing back some and was not really looking into the window as much as the first male. After looking at her for a few seconds, "with a look that said; I know you are in there!" both males turned around and walked away as if they were in no hurry.

The first male had medium skin tone, was wearing a polo stripe shirt. The shirt was a dark stripe over white. He had on baggy blue jeans but she could not remember if they were shorts or long pants. She could not remember anything about his hair.

The second male was extremely heavy and had dark color skin. He also had on a stripe shirt. His stripes were green over white. He had a lanyard around his neck. His hair was cut short.

UPD officers responded to the area but did not make contact with the individuals.

UPD would like to point out some safety tips:
