Campus Crime Report

The Campus Crime Report is released weekly to inform the University
community of incidents that may be a threat to public safety.

The University Police Department states the following incidents have
been reported between, Sunday, February 8, and Saturday, February 14, 2009:


BURGLARY:

Friday, February 13, 8:30 a.m., a composite,bench and portrait were reported stolen from the
Kappa Sigma Fraternity House.

Monday, February 9, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., a lap top computer was stolen from a
locked room in Kincannon Hall. There were no signs of forced entry.

 

SUSPICIOUS PERSONS:

Wednesday, February 11, 12:52 a.m., UPD received a report of a suspicious male in a male bathroom
in Stockard Hall. The incident is still under investigation.

Tuesday, February 10, 8:28 a.m., UPD received a suspicious person call at the Delta Gamma Sorority
House. Investigation revealed the incident had occurred on Monday, February 9, between 10:40 a.m.
and 10:45 a.m. According to the reporting parties; an unknown male had entered the house and they
observed in a stairwell. When asked how he had entered the house - he replied he had snuck in.
Further investigation revealed the male was a contract employee who had entered the house.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Friday, February 13, 2:07 a.m., UPD officers responded to a fight call on Fraternity Alley. Investigation
revealed several individuals had a physical altercation. No one was seriously injured. No charges filed.
The incident was turned over to the Dean of Students.

Saturday, February 14, 3:40 p.m., UPD received a report of an individual being physically assaulted
inside the Sigma Nu Fraternity House. The incident occurred on February 12. The matter is under
investigation.

One reported incident of receiving harassing text messages.

One reported incident of receiving harassing emails.

ARRESTS:

Saturday, February 14, 7:50 a.m., a male non-student was charged with possession of beer
under 21 years of age in the Phi Kappa Tau Parking Lot.

Saturday, February 14, 1:43 a.m., a male non-student was charged with running stop sign
and DUI 1st offense on Rebel Drive.

Friday, February 13, 2:29 p.m., a male student was charged with possession of a controlled
substance and another male student was chargedwith possession of drug paraphernalia inside Brown Hall.

Friday, February 13, 7:49 a.m., a male student was charged with seatbelt violation and driving
while license suspended on Rebel Drive.

Wednesday, February 11,6:32 p.m., a male non-student was charged with improper equipment
and driving while license suspended on Dormitory Row West.

Tuesday, February 10, at approximately 2:56 p.m., University of Mississippi police officers
responded to the attempted kidnapping of an Ole Miss student. The victim was accosted while
crossing Rebel Drive near Miller Hall.

The suspect, Wayne Crowe, 61, of Taylor, Mississippi, is alleged to have grabbed the
victim from behind and attempted to pull her in the direction of his vehicle when bystanders
intervened and notified UPD. Police arrived less than a minute of receiving the call and
apprehended Crowe who was still on the scene. Crowe was taken into custody without
incident. The victim was shaken and received minor bruises and abrasions. Crowe is being
detained at the Lafayette County Detention Center on the charge of attempted kidnapping.
There is no relationship between the victim and Crowe.

Sunday, February 8, 1:01 a.m., two male students were charged with possession of marijuana
in a motor vehicle in the Coliseum Parking Lot.
