1. Approval of Minutes.

The chair announced that Chancellor Khayat had approved the minutes of the May 4 meeting and the email ballot minutes of July 20, without exception.

2. Discussion of Environmental Studies 101 as a Humanities Course (see Attachment #3).

The discussion regarding the approval of Environmental Studies 101 as a humanities course was based on the statement of content in the course provided by Dr. Ann Fisher-Wirth, as well as the course description. The Council members agreed that the content of the course will fulfill the requirement for a humanities course. Council members expressed an objection to the title since it sounds very much as if the course is a science course. Several members of the Council asked whether or not an environmental studies minor is planned. The chair will contact the College of Liberal Arts for answers to these questions. Dr. Bush moved to table the approval of Environmental Studies 101 as fulfilling a humanities requirement in order to get more information regarding a different course title, the prefix of the course, and an Environmental Studies minor. Dr. Cleland seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

3. Courses (see Attachment #1).

On a motion by Dr. Watt and a second by Dr. Bush, the course changes for the College of Liberal Arts were approved by a vote of 7 to1. Discussion centered on the changed course description and the cross listing of Phil 345/PPL 345.

On a motion by Dr. Raines and a second by Dr. Watt, the course changes for the School of Education were unanimously approved.

4. Other Catalog Changes (see Attachment #2).

On a motion by Dr. Bush and a second by Dr. Bounds the catalog changes in the College of Liberal Arts in the CLEP Subject Examinations were unanimously approved.

5. Suspension of the Paralegal Certificate Program Effective Fall 2007 (see Attachment #4).

On a motion by Dr. Bush and a second by Dr. Watt, the suspension of the Paralegal Certificate Program was unanimously approved.

6. Petition of Heather M. Bynum (see Attachment #5

After discussion, and on a motion by Dr. Bounds and a second by Dr. Raines the petition of Heather M. Bynum was unanimously denied.

7. Petition of Amber Marie Ash (see Attachment #6).

After discussion, and on a motion by Dr. McCaffrey and a second by Dr. Cleland, the petition of Amber Marie Ash was unanimously denied. Council members suggested that Ms. Ash should investigate an independent study course in Spanish 102 through the University to complete her degree requirements.

8.       Adjournment. The Council adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
