Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition Guidelines
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland, Australia. The exercise challenges higher degree students to present a compelling oration on their research thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes and allows them to use one Power Point slide.
3MT® develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. This skill is critical for all graduate students across all academic disciplines.
A team of judges (not from the discipline) will determine the winners. The competition will be open to both masters and doctoral students. The topical areas will be:
a. Arts and Humanities
b. Social and Behavioral Sciences
c. Physical, Mathematical, and Computational Science and Engineering
d. Life and Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical/Chemical Engineering
One masters-level and one doctoral winner will be selected from each of the above categories, as well as a grand prize winner. The grand prize winner from the University of Mississippi will have a paid trip to the SEC final 3MT competition at a venue TBD in Spring 2014.
The competition will be held on November 14, 2013 in Room 404 in the Union. You must be registered to present. Deadline to register is October 25, 2013.
