Diversity in Graduate Education

By its nature, graduate education brings together a diverse range of individuals, cultures, ideas, and approaches. The UM Graduate School prides itself as being a leading unit on campus for the promotion of diversity. In December 2003, the Graduate School, along with the Graduate Student Council, received the national award for Excellence in Promoting Inclusiveness in Graduate Education (more). To us, inclusiveness means creating a supporting environment for and celebrating the contributions from students and scholars from:

  • around the world
  • different ethnic groups
  • both traditional and non-traditional age groups
  • a broad range of disciplines
