Online @ Ole Miss

At the University of Mississippi, whether you're registering for classes, checking grades or accepting financial aid, online is the place to be. With wired and wireless connectivity in the majority of residence halls and available across campus, students can log on and utilize Web-based library catalogs, student services and the Blackboard learning management system. IT makes taking part in college life more convenient than ever.

What's IT?

The Office of Information Technology (IT) manages many campus technology services, including the university's enterprise-wide computing facilities and the campus network. The Mississippi Center for Supercomputing Research (MCSR) is located on the UM campus and operated under IT's authority. IT also manages the Galtney Center for Academic Computing, located in Weir Hall next to the J.D. Williams Library, a central hub for student computing on campus.

Galtney Center for Academic Computing

The IT Helpdesk, Helpdesk Store, IT Labs, IT Multimedia and the Faculty Technology Development Center are located in the Galtney Center for Academic Computing. This facility offers wireless access and numerous hard-wired network ports throughout the building. The IT Labs are the only general usage labs on campus and provide a wide range of computers and software for students to use including Microsoft Office, Mathematica and Matlab. The main computer lab has several PCs, Macs, printers and a copy machine. During the fall and spring semesters, the lab is open 24 hours a day on weekdays. The warm and spacious design makes it a great place to visit, whether you're checking email between classes or pulling an all-nighter for an assignment.

In 2013, a collaborative area was added to the lab, including a media:scape table that allows students to share their laptop or mobile device displays in HD quality on a 55 inch HDTV. Also offered is a conference room that can be reserved for quiet study, meetings or rehearsing class presentations. The room features one PC, a projector, and a screen, so students can use this space to rehearse class presentations. Visit olemiss.edu/itlabs for more information.

Need Help?

The IT Helpdesk, centrally located in Weir Hall, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We offer assistance to Ole Miss students and employees with technology-related issues involving software, hardware and networking. We provide support for email, Wi-Fi, Microsoft Office and other campus-wide applications. For a small fee, students can leave their computers with the IT Helpdesk to have computer viruses removed as needed. Come by Weir Hall or call us at 662-915-5222. Visit www.olemiss.edu/helpdesk for more information.

WebID

Your WebID is your personal account used to access most online services at UM. You use your WebID and corresponding password to login to UM Gmail, UM Box, Blackboard, UM WIFI and myOleMiss. Your WebID is even used to authorize printing in Weir Hall. Because it is your personal account, please do not share your WebID and password. Always choose a complex password with numbers, letters and symbols. For security purposes, your WebID password will need to be changed every 90 days. As the 90 day deadline approaches, notice is provided in UM Today announcements and displayed at the top of the myOleMiss website once you log in.

myOleMiss

myOleMiss is UM’s Web portal. Numerous self-service Web applications for students have been made available including applying for admissions, registering for classes, reviewing financial aid awards and checking on your grades to name a few.

Blackboard

Blackboard is a mobile and Web-based learning management system that allows instructors to put their syllabi, lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, assignments, and grades online for students to access at any time. Plagiarism detection is also provided via Safe Assignments within Blackboard. Login at blackboard.olemiss.edu or download the Blackboard Mobile app from the mobile app store for free.

UM Gmail

Yes, we’ve gone Google. All students will automatically receive UM Gmail accounts that include email, calendaring and cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive). Students will receive 30 GB storage. Although this account will be hosted with Google, it will have the “@go.olemiss.edu” extension rather than “@gmail.com.” UM Gmail is the primary means of communicating important messages from the administration and faculty to students. Visit go.olemiss.edu for more information.

Cloud Storage with UM Box

In addition to Google Drive, students can also take advantage of UM Box, an enterprise version of Box.com. Each account gets 10 GB of storage which can be used to store any type of files. While some students use Box as an alternative to their USB drives, others may see the benefits of collaborating with other students on Box. To get started, login to box.olemiss.edu using your UM WebID. Be sure to check out the online training at success.box.com.

UM Today

UM Today is a personalized email sent with announcements and messages specifically for you. You can find this daily bulletin in your email or on your myOleMiss home page.

Parent WebIDs

Students can authorize their parents to receive WebIDs, to view academic data, pay bills, and use other campus services. Get the details.

Official Ole Miss App

The Official Ole Miss App, a university news app developed in partnership with Mercury Intermedia, is currently available for Android and Apple devices.
