At the University of Mississippi, whether you're registering for classes, checking grades or accepting financial aid - online is the place to be. With wired and wireless connectivity in the majority of residence halls and available across campus, students can log on and utilize Web-based library catalogs, student services, and the Blackboard learning management system. IT makes taking part in college life more convenient than ever.

What's IT?

The Office of Information Technology (IT) manages many campus technology services, including the university's enterprise-wide computing facilities and the campus network. The Mississippi Center for Supercomputing Research (MCSR) is located on the UM campus and operated under IT's authority.

Galtney Center for Academic Computing

Located in Weir Hall next to the Library, the Galtney Center houses the IT Helpdesk, IT Labs, IT Multimedia and the Faculty Technology Development Center. It is a central hub for student computing on campus. This facility offers wireless access and numerous hard-wired network ports throughout the building.

Compute in Comfort

The IT Labs are the only general usage labs on campus and provide a wide range of computers and software for students to use including Microsoft Office, Mathematica, and Matlab. The main computer lab has several Windows and Apple computers, printers, scanners, and a copy machine. The warm and spacious design makes it a great place to visit, whether you're checking email between classes or pulling a late-nighter for an assignment.

A collaborative area including a media:scape table that allows students to share their laptop or mobile device displays in HD quality on a 55 inch HDTV. Also offered is a conference room with a projector and screen that can be reserved for quiet study, meetings, or rehearsing class presentations. Need Help?

The IT Helpdesk, centrally located in Weir Hall, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We offer assistance to UM students and employees with technology-related issues involving software, hardware and networking. We provide support for email, Wi-Fi, Microsoft Office, and other campus-wide applications. For a small fee, students can leave their computers with the IT Helpdesk to have computer viruses removed as needed. Come by Weir Hall or call us at 662-915-5222. Visit for more information.


Your WebID is used to access most online services at UM. Use your WebID and corresponding password to login to UM Gmail, UM Box, Blackboard, UM Wi-Fi, and myOleMiss. Your WebID is also used to authorize printing in Weir Hall. Because it is your personal account, do not share your WebID password. Always choose a complex password with numbers, letters, and symbols. For security purposes, your WebID password will need to be changed every 90 days. As the 90 day deadline approaches, notice is provided in UM Today announcements and displayed at the top of the myOleMiss website once you log in.


UM’s web portal, myOleMiss provides numerous self-service web applications for students. Students use the myOleMiss portal when applying for admissions, registering for classes, reviewing financial aid awards, and checking grades.


Blackboard is a mobile and web-based learning management system that allows instructors to put their syllabi, lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, assignments, and grades online for students to access at any time. Plagiarism detection is also provided via Safe Assignments within Blackboard. Log in at or download the Blackboard Mobile app from the mobile app store for free.

UM Gmail

Each student automatically receives a UM Gmail account that includes email, calendar, and unlimited cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive). Although this account will be hosted with Google, it will have the “” extension rather than “” UM Gmail is the primary means of communicating important messages from the administration and faculty to students. Getting Connected with UM Wired and UM Wi-Fi

The University of Mississippi is a very connected place, so it's not hard to find high-speed, reliable network access. Wi-Fi access is available in all of the residence halls, the library, portions of The Grove and most buildings across campus. With a valid WebID, you may sponsor guest accounts for temporary Wi-Fi access. UM also participates in Eduroam, a global network service that allows Wi-Fi access using your UM WebID and password at participating universities. Visit for details.

Cloud Storage with UM Box

In addition to Google Drive, students can also take advantage of UM Box, an enterprise version of Each account gets 15 GB of storage which can be used to store any type of files. While some students use Box as an alternative to their USB drives, others may see the benefits of collaborating with other students on Box. To get started, login to using your UM WebID. UM Today

UM Today is a personalized email sent with announcements and messages specifically for you. You can find this daily bulletin in your email or on your myOleMiss home page.

Parent WebIDs

Students can authorize their parents to receive WebIDs, to view academic data, pay bills, and use other campus services. Parents with WebIDs can opt in to receive the same REBALERT emergency text message notifications as students. Get the details.

Telecommunications Center

Students living in university housing are provided 100+ Cable TV channels, additional subscription channels, and upon request, a campus phone line at no additional charge. Long distance access and campus directory assistance are also provided. Visit for more information.
