Get Ready for National Walking Day &
Employee Health Fair - April 3rd

The University will celebrate National Walking Day, the kick-off to our 2013 Walking Challenge, on April 3rd. Join the Chancellor for a mid-morning walk. Also, the students of Health, Exercise Science, and Recreational Management will offer the Annual Employee Health Fair on April 3rd. Mark you calendar and watch for details in the March issue of Ole Miss Human Resources News and UMToday.

What Are You Not Wearing? HR to host a Clothing Drive!

Human Resources in conjunction with the UM Big Event will collect new or gently used business attire to benefit members of the surrounding community. Help make a difference in the community while clearing some space at home!

Check your closets for items you have not worn in the past year. Ask your friends and neighbors to do the same!

Can't make it on March 2nd? No problem! Clothes will be accepted the week prior to the event.

There's a Policy for That!

The Department of Human Resources policies are available through the University's Policy Index. A favorite tip is to use the "by Free-form Search" option. Simply type in a "keyword" and search. Related policies will be listed.

HR staff members can assist with interpretations and provide clarificaiton. Contact information is available and includes each staff member's area of expertise on the Human Resources webite.

This Spring Clean Up your Benefits Beneficiary information

Experienced a life change recently?
Employees who have recently experienced a life change, such as; marriage, divorce, or birth/adoption of a child, may need to update beneficiary information for state retirement or life insurance policies.  Forms are available on the benefits webpage at  http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/hr/forms.html or by contacting a benefits representative at 915-5690.  Submit forms to the Human Resources office located at Howry for processing.

Online Registration for Training & Development Sessions

Our "Communications Works for Those Who Work At It" series has been popular and all of the spring classes are full! We hope to offer these classes again this summer. Employees are encouraged to continue to review training sessions available on the Human Resources site or on myOleMiss at olemiss.edu/hrtraining. Enroll at myOleMiss and receive automatic reminders and keep track of the sessions that you have attended.

As always, departments may request a specific and customized training for their department. Contact Andrea Jekabsons at andreamj@olemiss.edu or 915-1530.

Be Financially Ready to Retire When You are Ready to Retire

The University offers employees the opportunity to contribute to voluntary pre-tax and post-tax supplemental retirement plans as defined under Section 403(B) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Participation is available to benefit/eligible and non-benefit/eligible employees, student workers, and re-employed retirees.  Participants are eligible to start and stop participation and change contribution amounts at any time.

The general limit allowed by IRS regulations for tax sheltered annuities (403B) is $17,500.  The catch up limit for employees over age 50 is $5,500.  This limit is the same for the Roth 403(B).

This month's policy review:
Retention of Search Materials

Departments are required to retain all materials related to an employment search for a minimum of three (3) years.  This includes notes made during the interview, all notes made during reference checks, and supporting documents.  This notice is included in published guidelines and on the e-form document.  Credentialing agencies specific to your department or field may require a longer retention period.
