Biography: Linda Chitwood
Provost/VC for Academic Affairs, Associate Provost for Outreach and Continuing Studies, Dean of General Studies, and Professor of Exercise Science
Linda Chitwood was named interim associate provost for outreach and continuing education in May of 2012. Prior to joining the Provost’s office, she served as chair of the Department of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management and dean of the School of Applied Sciences. She also provided leadership as interim dean of the School of Education and interim associate athletic director for academics.
Dr. Chitwood received the BS and MS degrees in Health and Physical Education from Oklahoma State University and the PhD in Human Sciences with emphasis in Exercise Physiology/Nutrition from Florida State University. She joined the University faculty in 1991.
As interim associate provost, Dr. Chitwood is responsible for one of the largest and most diverse units at the University of Mississippi. Her leadership responsibilities include regional campuses, summer school, online education, college and pre college special programs, and professional development and lifelong learning. She also assists and advises the provost in a wide variety of academic matters.
