Biography: Tom Eppes
Chief Communications Officer
Tom Eppes was appointed chief communications officer in January 2012. He leads marketing and communications strategy, public relations, advertising, design/printing, photography and social media programs for the university. Tom joined Ole Miss following doctoral studies as a Park Fellow at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He earned a master’s in strategic public relations from the George Washington University and his undergraduate degree in journalism and political science from the University of Southern Mississippi.
A leading New York firm acquired Tom’s Charlotte, NC, advertising and public relations agency, PriceMcNabb, in 2004. Before his 25-year agency career, he led communications for two international corporations headquartered in Atlanta. His career began as a newspaper reporter in Mississippi and Florida, followed by service as a public information officer for the Mississippi R&D Center and press secretary for two U.S. Senate campaigns.
Tom was elected in 2007 to the national board and later elected national treasurer for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). In 2013, he joined the board of Counselors to Higher Education, a section within PRSA, and was appointed the national assembly delegate for the Memphis chapter of PRSA. His agency and corporate teams have won a variety of top national and international awards for communications excellence, including the Silver Anvil, Bronze Anvil, Gold Quill, AdWeek Creative Team of the Year, a Cannes Lion twice, three Silver Clios and the prestigious One Show Pencil.
Tom is married to Jennie Spradling Eppes, and they have three sons, two of whom attended Ole Miss.
