Biography: Lee Tyner
General Counsel, Instructor in Business Administration
Lee Tyner has worked as an attorney for the university since 1998, serving as the university’s chief legal officer since 2003. In addition to managing the legal affairs of the university, he provided interim leadership in University Communications in 2011. Throughout his tenure at the university, Tyner has regularly taught courses in business law and communications law.
Tyner earned his bachelor of arts degree in Economics and History from The University of Mississippi and his juris doctor from The University of Virginia School of Law. He is a leader among higher education lawyers, and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Association of College and University Attorneys from 2008-2011. Tyner began his career as an associate at the Butler Snow law firm in Jackson, Mississippi, and he has trial and appellate experience in media law, labor and employment, personal injury, constitutional, environmental, sunshine laws, insurance bad faith, and consumer finance litigation.
A native of Columbus, Mississippi, Tyner has been married for more than twenty years to Susan Thompson Tyner (BA 1990) of Yazoo City, Mississippi. Tyner is active in the Oxford-University community and stays busy with his five children, three of whom are students at Ole Miss.
