Last year, the UM family contributed $164,758 to our United Way. Approximately 500 individual employees participated, and 104 of those gave at the leadership level. Our goal this year: $165,000.

2010 United Way Community Impact

United Way agencies touched the lives of about 24,630 people in Lafayette County last year — a little over half of our population.  Statistics are one way of demonstrating the breadth of services delivered because of your contribution to United Way. 

HEALTH – 7,336 individuals
Including:

  • 2,743 people were reached through educational programs on the signs and prevention of child abuse. (Exchange Club Family Center)
  • 517 people attended Disaster Preparedness classes. (American Red Cross)
  • 186 victims of rape, sexual assault, and child abuse received counseling and other services. (Family Crisis Services)
  • 490 people received education on abuse prevention. (Family Crisis Services)
  • 3,188 people were certified in first aid, aquatics and CPR. (American Red Cross)
  • 212 renal dialysis patients in Lafayette County were assisted with medication, transportation and emergency needs. (North Mississippi Kidney Foundation)

 

INCOME – 12,483 individuals
Including:

  • 154 people received disaster assistance. (American Red Cross)
  • 5,627 people received emergency food. (Pantry)
  • 251 homebound elderly individuals received meals.  (Meals on Wheels)
  • 750 kids served through Rotary Club Christmas Store. (Interfaith Compassion Ministry)
  • 5,701 people received financial assistance to meet basic needs: food, medicine, rent, utilities and temporary housing (Interfaith Compassion Ministry, Salvation Army)

 

EDUCATION – 4,811 individuals
Including:

  • 1,062 children participated in Power Hour tutoring program. (Boys & Girls Club)
  • 798 children received books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. (Lafayette County Literacy Council)
  • 1,691 youth received training in leadership & life skills. (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H)
  • 78 teen moms received parenting instruction. (Exchange Club Family Center)
  • 522 kids in Lafayette Co. received after-school tutoring. (Leap Frog and Boys & Girls Club)
  • 660 handicapped individuals had an opportunity to develop their artistic talents. (Very Special Arts Festival)
