Basic Modern Language Sequences
Several sequence options are available in languages offered by the Department of Modern Languages. The option which a student chooses depends first on the language and then on the amount of high school instruction the student has had in the language.

OPTION 1 (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish)
101 (3 hours) → 102 (3 hours) → 201 (3 hours) → 202 (3 hours)
Important: The 101/102/201/202 sequence in Spanish or French is intended for students with fewer than 2 years of high school instruction in the language. Students with 2 or more years of high school instruction in Spanish or French that register for 101 will be dropped from the course.
OPTION 2 (French, Spanish)
121 (3 hours) → 201 (3 hours) → 202 (3 hours)
Important: The 121/201/202 sequence is intended for students with 2 or more years of high school instruction in the language.
OPTION 3 (Chinese, French, German, Spanish)
111 (6 hours) → 211 (6 hours)
Important: Students must register in 111 and 211 through the Department of Modern Languages.
OPTION 4 (Japanese)
101/103 (4 hours) → 102/104 (4 hours) → 201/203 (4 hours) → 202/204 (4 hours)
