Mandala Sand Painting

Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery constructed a Mandala Sand Painting from April 28 to May 2, 2008, at the Student Union. Millions of grains of sand were painstakingly laid into place in this ancient spiritual art form in order to purify and heal the environment and its inhabitants. This event was part of "The Mystical Arts of Tibet Events" sponsored by The Ford Center.

This animation was created over the course of the week by capturing a webcam image every ten minutes. Images of Friday's closing ceremony were taken more frequently. Overnight images when there was no activity have been removed.
