David Davis

David Davis was born October 29, 1948. He grew up in Texas. After high school he attended Stephen F. Austin University where he studied fine arts. His taste for humor — and a love of comic and cartoon art — led him to give up a job in banking to begin a new career as a political cartoonist. He first worked as a cartoonist for the Winnsboro News in Texas. In the mid-1980s he began his writing career as a freelance humorist, first writing humor and satire pieces for Comics Buyers Guide.

Since then, his poems, short stories, and cartoons have appeared in a wide range of publications, including Christianity Today, Bureaucrat Magazine, Satire Magazine, Vermont Ink, Jackson, Mississippi's Clarion Ledger newspaper, Back Porch Magazine, and The Madison County Journal.

The publication of his satirical poem "Redneck Night Before Christmas" in Back Porch Magazine led to a book offer from Pelican Publishing Company. The book came out in the fall of 1997 and was one of the company's biggest sellers. He also won a Mississippi press association award in 1996 for his political cartoons in the Madison County Journal.

Davis resides in Clinton, Mississippi, with his wife and two children.
