[Books] Publication of The De Soto Chronicles, by a Portuguese who had accompanied De Soto on his exploration of the Mississippi region. The writer, who identified himself as “A Gentleman from Elvas,” kept detailed records of what he observed of the Native American culture encountered on the expedition. His work would not be translated into English until 1933 by James Alexander Robertson.
