[News] The French capture the Natchez fort, taking those who did not escape to New Orleans and selling them as slaves in Santo Domingo. Those who did escape blend with the Chickasaw. The Natchez nation is destroyed.

April 10: The Mississippi Company, bankrupted by the long struggle with the Natchez, surrenders its charter and is reverted to direct control by the crown.
