Vaudreuil becomes governor of Canada.
He is replaced as governor of Louisiana by Louis Billouart de Kerlerec, who concentrates on restoring alliances with the Indians.
A naval officer, Kerlerec also provides refuge to the French Acadians in their removal from Nova Scotia to Louisiana;
in future generations, their descendents will be known as "Cajuns."
