[Birth] January 18: Physician, lawyer, and historian Reuben Davis was born in Winchester, Tennessee.

[Birth] January 21: Joseph Glover Baldwin born at Friendly Grove factory near Winchester, Virginia.

[Birth] June 6: Catherine Ann Warfield, née “Ware,” born in Natchez, Mississippi.


1817

[News] December 10: Mississippi is admitted to the Union as the twentieth state. Its capital is Washington, Mississippi, and the governor is David Holmes.

[Birth] William C. Hall born in Yazoo City, Mississippi.

[Birth] April 11: Joseph Beckham Cobb born in Lexington, Georgia.
