[Books] Publications:

[Film] February 9: The motion picture Hannibal, the sequel to Silence of the Lambs, premieres in theatres, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Anthony Hopkins. The screenplay is based on the novel by Thomas Harris.

[Stage Play]April 16: A revival of Beth Henley’s play Crimes of the Heart opens at the Second Stage Theater in New York. The play stars Amy Ryan, Mary Catherine Garrison, and Enid Graham, and is directed by Garry Hynes.

[Death] July 23: Eudora Welty dies following a bout of pneumonia in Jackson, Mississippi.

[Death] December 24: Jimmy Faulkner dies in a Tupelo, Mississippi, hospital.
