Men's and women's track teams combine for nine wins

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Ole Miss men's track and field team had four first place finishes while the women finished with five champions at the 2000 Saluki Booster Club Invitational at Southern Illinois University that concluded on Saturday.

The Rebels finished second with 130 points in the nine team field, behind host Southern Illinois. The Lady Rebels took fourth place with 96 points in the eight team field behind Mississippi State, Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State in the long jump.

On the men's side, junior Savante' Stringfellow was one of only three competitors to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships with his first place leap of 25'-2.5" in the long jump.

He also finished second in the high jump with a 7'-0.25" mark, just 0.75 shy of the provisional qualifying mark. Freshman Stacy Andrews set a new school indoor record with his winning weight throw of 50'-9.5". He also finished sixth in the shot put.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the pair of Rebel teams finished one-two, Finishes Second, while sophomore Marcus Christoffersen won the 600 meter race, just ahead of freshman teammate Reggie Collins. Four other Rebels finished with second place finishes including James Shelton in the 60 meters, Dominik Fuhrman in the 800 meters, Aaron Fenzel in the 200 meters and John Frierson in the weight throw.

On the women's side, junior Teneeshia Jones was the only two-event champion for Ole Miss, winning both the 60 meters and the 60-meter hurdles. Willette Woods and Cathy Prior both picked up wins in the Ole Miss Men 200 meters and 1,000 meters respectively. There were a pair one-two finishes for the Lady Rebels with sophomore Dawn Harden Two At Kickoff placing just behind Jones in the 60-meter hurdles, while sophomore Chika Chuku won the 600 meters just ahead of junior teammate Brandy Mack.

The Rebels and Lady Rebels will compete again next Friday at the SEC Quadrangular at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., site of the SEC and NCAA Indoor Championships later in the spring.
