Lady Rebs fall short on the road to Gators 80-51

sports information

GAINSEVILLE, Fla. -- The Ole Miss women's basketball team could not overcome the strong shooting Florida Lady Gators, who had four players put up double-digit point totals, as the Lady Rebels fell on the road, 80-51.
Leading the way for the Lady Rebels (11-13, 0-11 SEC) was senior Frankie Boyd with 16 points, who once again saw only limited action because of foul trouble. Freshman Kayla Madewell continued to rack up the points, picking up 11 against the Lady Gators, all of which came in the second half.
The game was highlighted, however, by easy lay-ups, transition points and second chance points by Florida (15-9, 5-6 SEC). The Lady Rebels were outrebounded, 47-38, including 17 offensive rebounds by the Lady Gators, leading directly to 17 second chance points. Shooting 49 percent for the game, Florida also outscored Ole Miss 48-24 in the paint and picked up 23 points off Lady Rebel turnovers.
"We gave up a lot of lay ups," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "They are a good transition team. Also, if you let them rebound, they will definitely hurt you with it. They are strong on the boards and attack the glass well. We just didn't prevent them from taking it to the basket."
Tiffany Travis led the quartet of Lady Gators picking up double-digit point totals. She finished with 22 points and six rebounds, followed by Naomi Mobley with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Tonya Washington had 14 points and five rebounds while Tombi Bell finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
Coming of the bench, junior Keisha Howell and senior Tanya Bolden provided the only spark for the Lady Rebels. In only 12 minutes of play, Bolden picked up three rebounds, including two offensive boards.
"They came off the bench and played harder than the kids that were on the floor," said Aldy. "They observed what we were doing wrong and tried to correct it. It's just disappointing that not everyone could have played with the intensity and energy that Keisha and Tanya showed. This was a step backwards for our team."
Next up for the Lady Rebels is a trip to Auburn. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. in Auburn, Ala. Ole Miss will return home to close out the season with games against Kentucky and Arkansas.
