Riley wins SEC Community Service AwardSports Information University of Mississippi soccer player Brooke Riley and University of Georgia football player Brett Millican have been named recipients of the 1999-2000 Southeastern Conference Community Service Postgraduate Scholarship, Commissioner Roy Kramer announced Tuesday. The two were chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 12 SEC universities. Each will receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship, provided by the SEC. "The Southeastern Conference is proud of the accomplishments of Brett and Brooke and their commitment to community service," Kramer said. "By their dedication to helping others, Brett and Brooke have made their communities better places to live. "Hopefully, others will be inspired to action in their communities by the contributions they have made." A four-year letterwinner for the Ole Miss soccer team, Riley helped lead the Lady Rebels to the 1999 SEC Western Division Championship and a runner-up finish at the SEC Tournament. She served as team captain for the Lady Rebels in 1997 and 1999. Riley was selected as the Ole Miss representative for the 1999 NCAA Leadership Conference. She is chairman of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serves as a group leader for her chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In her community, Riley has helped raise over $7,000 for the Domestic Violence Shelter in Oxford as well as doing mission work with the FCA in Georgia. She has read books to children at local elementary schools and talked with youth about the importance of self-esteem. Riley has also volunteered her time with the CHAMPS Life Skills Program as well as Special Olympics. Riley has maintained a 3.81 grade point average, majoring in Exercise Science, at Ole Miss. The daughter of Jerry and Judy Riley, Brooke is from Gulfport, Miss. She was selected for "Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges" and the Mortar Board in 1999. She is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. She has made the Chancellor's Honor Roll five times, the Dean's Honor Roll twice and the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times during her Ole Miss career.
