Three construction workers were injured Thursday when a strong winds blew a newly laid brick wall onto them.
Two of the workers sustained minor injuries, and one was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, according to Fire Chief Jerry Johnson. Johnson did not know the names of the workers.
According to Johnson, the mortar between the bricks had not dried, and the winds knocked a two to three-foot portion of the wall onto the workers. The workers were on the third floor of the north side of a building under construction on North Lamar.
Johnson said the fire department received the call at 2:41 p.m.
The property is owned by Mike Overstreet Properties, L.L.C. and under construction by Southwide Construction, Inc. in Oxford.
A spokesperson at Southwide Construction would not release the name of the subcontractor that employs the bricklayers or the names of the injured workers. Overstreet could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Oxford was under a severe thunderstorm watch until 5 p.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service said winds of 60 miles per hour were likely to accompany the storms. Thunderstorms are predicted until Sunday.
