In a pre-recorded statement broadcast Thursday night on Rebel Radio, Associated Student Body President Nic Lott made his first and last statement regarding his violation of ASB codes over the summer.
In his statement Lott apologized for "discrepancies" in the selection of student government officials according to "a recent interpretation" of the ASB code and said that officials appointed for the summer sessions should have been approved by the ASB in the spring session.
"I was unaware of this [interpretation] and I take full responsibility for not getting them approved by the senate," Lott said.
Lott said the ASB Code and Constitution was "not well defined" and promised to work with ASB Attorney General Casey O'Shea to "make sure our Constitution and Code are brought up to date."
Also in question was the fact that Lott received paychecks for the office of ASB president while not being enrolled at the university and not being present on campus over the summer. In his statement Lott said the ASB presidential salary for this summer would be donated to a local charity.
According to the ASB Code, the president receives the cost of three academic hours tuition for each summer for each summer session. Three academic hours during the 1999 summer session cost $315.
Lott said a student representation known as CIGAR, the committee to investigate governmental accountability and responsibility.
