State fans ought to be confined to the free speech zone

Students, it is time to unite!

In light of the recent arrest of a student for protesting liberals, we now have before us a wonderful opportunity to effectively control the actions of all those around us.

Those pesky Mississippi State fans. They think they have the right to don their favorite school's t-shirts and hats in symbolic protest of Ole Miss athletics. Well, now is the time to do something about it. I propose that university police hang out around Fulton Chapel, and as soon as one of the State fans leaves his or her protective huddle in the "free speech zone" (which is where they all hang out, right?), the police should make the arrest. Soon, there will be no more State fans left to deal with. The same goes for those who wear Auburn clothing, or Alabama or North Carolina (you know who you are).

As a matter of fact, I think we could effectively implement a policy where students cannot wear anything except red or blue once they venture from Fulton Chapel's hallowed Constitutional grounds.

Free speech? Not on this campus.

Renick articles make freshman feel 'awfully unwelcome'

I have greatly enjoyed reading The DM as a source of campus news, but I am upset over two of the articles written.

I have been in Oxford for a little over a week and already two articles have been published insulting the freshmen class.

The first article insulted the freshmen guys' looks. A person having blonde highlights in his hair does not make him look like a girl. Although I do not choose to style my hair in this manner, I have no problem with others that do, and I am definitely not confused about their sex.

The second article tells of the writer's dissatisfaction with the lack of freshmen attendance at the concert in the Grove. I personally know several people that went, but that fact does not matter. It is a person's own choice whether or not he or she goes to a school activity. If the person does not attend, he or she should not be insulted for not attending.

The author of the articles,Will Renick, said, "The SPB loves you, and wants you to have a good time in Oxford, not back home. So next time something like this happens, you better recognize."

I love Oxford and appreciate the generosity of the SPB, but so far The DM makes me feel awfully unwelcome at Ole Miss.
