Police aren't anticipating violence at Ky. game

This weekend's home football game may be a dangerous situation for some fans.

Fans who have sat in student section in the past have sometimes had to deal with object throwing.

Although university officials were pleased with the behavior of students at the Sept. 9 football game against Auburn, at least one object was thrown.

An Auburn student was hit in the head with an airborne object. The woman received a cut to the back of her head and went to the hospital as a result of being hit.

UPD does not know who threw the object.

"If I had to guess I'd say it was not an Ole Miss fan. In fact I'd say the students did real well," University Police Officer Bobby Black said.

The woman was taken to the North End Zone first aid area for treatment. Emergency services said they offered to take her to the hospital as a precaution but she refused, insisting that she would go on her own, Black said.

The police department later received e-mail from the girl's father. He was upset because EMS did not take his daughter to the hospital, no one was arrested for the incident, and no one from the university had called to check on her, Black said.

One arrest was made at the game for throwing bottles, and it an Auburn fan.

"For the size crowd we had it was a very good game," Black said.

Some students think bottle-throwing is bound to happen.

"I don't know, it's hard to celebrate without doing something crazy," said Alan Logan, a pre-med major from Clarksdale.

Other students do not consider object throwing an issue.

"I didn't even know that was a problem," said Anne Winship from Marietta, Ga.

Black said he does not expect there to be any trouble at the game against Kentucky.

"I don't think we'll have the trouble that we had for the Auburn game," Black said.

He said he thought the tension was because of the hype, playing Tuberville, and that the crowds will be calmer for this weekend's game.
