Student on life support after wreck on Hwy. 78

An Ole Miss student is in critical condition after a wreck on Hwy 78 from New Albany Wednesday Sept. 27.

Detrick McJunkins, a senior psychology and sociology major of Oxford is on life support at The Med Trauma Center in Memphis.

Mississippi Highway Patrol officers said the wreck report would not be available until Wednesday morning.

The wreck happened when McJunkins was coming from his job at the Boys and Girls Club, family members said.

Family members said he is in very critical condition and said they wanted to thank Ole Miss for its support and prayers.

Judith Trott, dean of students, said his family requested Thursday to medically withdraw him from the university in order not loose any financial aid or awards.

"Let's pray for the best for the student," said Lloyd Holmes, assistant dean of students. "The university will rally behind the student."
