Debate hurt candidates; Joseph promising
ASB presidential candidate Smith Boykin wants to turn the heat up on the ASB by teaching students "how to fish." Stephen Harrell wants to leave Ole Miss better than he found it. Whitney Wilt wants to bond with the students through an advisory committee. John Joseph has already started and wants a proactive instead of reactive ASB. And Cassie Williford wants to be persistent.
Like the week of intense campaigning before it, Monday night's election debate was "interesting." While the debate provided no clear winner, it did eliminate a few candidates. Television has a nasty habit of making people look bad. And thanks to Channel 12 and the Telecommunication Resource Center, chances of Stephen Harrell and Cassie Williford winning Tuesday's elections ain't looking too good.
Diversity must be accepted by entire UM community
"If the South would have won we'd had it made." These famous words by county music singer Hank Williams have rung in my head often since arriving on campus in the summer of 1996. And, once again I was reminded of them Tuesday as I sat in my History of the Mass Communications class and discussed the topic of whether or not the Union or the Confederacy had better newspaper coverage of the Civil War. I was quickly reminded that I was in the Deep South. But I was also quick to realize there were "outsiders" among my classmates.
