Law school receives $1 million
As preschoolers practiced their batting skills Saturday afternoon in the Grove, partners in the Jackson law firm of Pittman, Germany, Roberts & Welsh announced their gift of $1 million to the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Believed to be the largest gift ever made to the law school, the money will be used to support the law library, faculty research and scholarships for talented students.

Moore's lawyer prepares for trial
While Ole Miss freshman Katie Martin faces a felony DUI charge that could change her life, Ole Miss graduate Dexter Moore is undergoing treatment to regain his.
Moore, who has been hospitalized since he was struck by the Chevrolet Suburban that Martin was driving on Feb. 28, has been moved from the Memphis Medical Center to the Walter Reed Military Hospital in Washington, D.C.
New ASB Cabinet at odds
over how to address train
As the new John Joseph cabinet moves into its term, it is quickly becoming apparent that "communication" is to be the buzzword for this year's Associated Student Body, especially concerning student issues like the train.
Meeting Sunday night at 6, Joseph began his follow-up planning for the week and streamlined his campaign and cabinet platform ideas. He also discussed several items that appeared to be at odds with the cabinet's majority opinion.
Greek-sponsored Charity Bowl raises money for the disabled
Sigma Nu held their 10th annual Charity Bowl on March 27 in honor of Jay Harmon, 20. Harmon, a Columbus, MS native who was injured in a car accident last year, is now a quadriplegic.
The Charity Bowl was started to benefit Chucky Mullins, a former Ole Miss student. Over the past nine years, $375,000 have been raised, the largest collegiate philanthropy.
Chi-Os sweep Derby Day
After a week of searching and preparing, Sigma Chi's 36th Annual Derby Day entered into its final chapter on Kincannon field at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The Phi Mu's rolled in on a Mardi Gras float, complete with costume. The Alpha Omicron Pi's were ready for the big leagues in their major league uniforms and Chi Omega was showing everyone just "Who's Bad."
Ten sororities showed up to compete in fie0ld and dance competition, as well as selecting the Derby Day queen. Between tug-o-war, dancing, skin-the-snake, limbo and the amoeba race the excitement was contagious.
UM Serbian student's family safe despite NATO bombings
"They're OK. That's all I know," said Marko Kostic, a junior electrical engineer international student, about his parents and brother from Leskovac, Serbia.
Kostic said he would not give an interview until the bombings in Serbia had ceased and he knows his family is out of danger.
