RHA Hall Council making progress in dormsThe Residence Hall Association meeting for this week was quite uneventful in contrast to weeks past. "Last week the meeting lasted for about two and a half hours. This week there wasn't much of anything to discuss," said Mike Juhas, President of the Residence Hall Association. Guest speaker Carl Rebman was unable to attend the meeting so Mike Juhas spoke in his place. The topic to be addressed by Rebman was the Village Cleanup Project. Juhas provided a brief update on the project. The cleanup is planned for November 14 and involves cleaning and repairing playground equipment, painting parking space lines, and other basic improvements. RHA and ASB are contacting other student organizations to help in the cleanup and Juhas encouraged individual hall representatives to organize students in their halls to help with the project. The Concerned Students Committee held their monthly meeting Tuesday night and the results were stated at the meeting Wednesday. The committee addressed physical concerns of the individual residence halls. The next issue addressed was the South Atlantic Association of College and University Residence Halls conference where members of the Ole Miss RHA will be joining other chapters of RHA in efforts to discuss leadership and success in RHA. "We are looking forward to meeting with other successful RHAs and sharing ideas on how to make residence life more enjoyable for students," said Juhas. The programming report was presented next. The report stated that a Constitution Committee will be forming to revise the current constitution held by RHA. A handbook for the residence halls is in the works and the committee has hopes of it being ready by January. Discussed next were reports from the individual residence halls. The women's halls will be hosting trick-or-treating activities for faculty and staff children tonight from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Miller, Stewart, Hefley and Deaton announced Halloween festivities for tonight. GHM announced that they had gotten computers in the study room this past week. Martin announced an update on the plans for a charity drive. They also have plans to buy new movies for both Martin and Stockard lobbies and make Tuesdays movie night. Brown presented plans for a car wash, involvement in Habitat for Humanity and plans for a Christmas formal. Deaton announced that they are in search of a new president and will be holding a pingpong tournament next week. Kinard and Kincannon had no new business. Crosby announced the purchase of 24 new movies and success in their second program for the semester which took place this past weekend. Guess concluded with plans to serve breakfast on Fridays and to make Saturday movie night. Old business was brought to attention next. The issue of last week was the integrated housing resolution and the progress on it was announced. The resolution was ratified by the RHA and signed by Juhas. It was then ratified by the executive review board and is now up for review and approval by Director of Student Housing Bill McCartney. Treasury reports were requested next, and the majority of halls did not present them. The meeting adjourned with everyone encouraged to involve residents with the Village Cleanup Project.
