DECISION TIME

Brian Rosenkrans/The Daily Mississippian

On the last day of before elections, state senate candidates Gary Tollison (left) campaigns outside Kroger while Quentin Whitwell talks with supporters at a candidate kickoff party Monday.

Officals expect record number for elections

Will Glover
DM Senior Staff writer

Near-record numbers are expected across the state today as Mississippians go to the polls to choose a new governor, lieutenant governor and a multitude of other state and local offices. A proposed constitutional amendment will be on the ballot, as well.

The Candidates

Mississippi Governor

Ronnie Musgrove

Democrat

Ronnie Musgrove is running for governor because of education. The education of his two children, that is.

Musgrove says he wants his children to get a good education and build a career in Mississippi, and as governor, he wants to provide Mississippians with quality education.

Mike Parker

Republican

Mike Parker is the candidate with the downhome political TV advertisements and the wry sense of humor.

A former congressman who represented southwest Mississippi, the Republican candidate for governor wants to "keep moving forward" if he's elected as the state's next governor.

Mississippians to also vote on mandated term limits

Initiative No. 9 would place two-term limit on state legislators

Paul Watkins
DM Staff writer

When Mississippians across the state hit the polls today to pick their new state leaders, they will also decide whether mandated term limits should be placed on state legislators.

Papers disappear too quickly from racks

Joshua Miller
DM Feature Editor

If you had trouble finding a copy of The Daily Mississippian yesterday, then you're not alone.

Reports from students, faculty and citizens on Monday suggest that at least 1,500 of The DM's 12,000 printed copies were missing from their designated bins.
