Live music haunts Oxford tonight

Halloween music in Oxford this year will be anything but spooky. Lacking any of that chilling uncertainty that bands from far away bring, this Halloween gives the local bands their chance to glow like the ever present jack-o-lantern that represents the holiday. The Circuit Riders, Second Guess, the Kudzu Kings and Blue Mountain will all be playing on the scariest night of the year.

First off, the Kudzu Kings will play Two Stick sushi bar, and though the raucous country rockers may seem out of place, their music is better served in the sticks. The Kings wield a beautifully tantrumic inbreed of rock/country music that like the creepy vine for which they are named takes over a room. Their twanging guitars, and bouncing banjos provide any venue with the perfect blend of dancing and fun for all.

Bodega treats music lovers with a double header of local ear candy on this the sweet tooth's holiday. Second Guess will bring their jazz funk brand of music to the stage in front of Oxford Americana favorites The Circuit Riders. The Riders, now well over their one-hundredth rock and roll show together, will be sure to please fans with their folk rock blend of American music. Their is no trick to Rider's music, they lay it all out on the stage, just straight rock and roll.

Finally, moaning all night with the ghost and goblins will be the haunting voices and harmonies of Blue Mountain, at Proud Larry's. The four piece band has recently undergone a somewhat supernatural metamorphosis in their line-up. Bass player George Sheldon is no longer with the band and neither is original member Frank Coutch. The change may be more fitting since the band originated as a three piece group. One thing for sure though, lead guitarist and vocalist Cary Hudson will be their and where he goes the music will follow. Don't miss the opportunity to see the band as they started.

Whatever you choose to do this Halloween night, be sure to be mindful of all the little ghouls and witches running around. You might want to wear your own costumes too, as the custom on the holiday is to give out prizes and discounts at the drop of a hat. Have a blast and remember don't eat unwrapped candy.
