 Fight Night Raises Record Amount for MDA!
Kappa Alpha Order's annual Fight Night benefiting Muscular Dystrophy
Association was a rousing success for 2004. The event was held once
again
at the Batesville Livestock Arena on March 19th and 20th. The chapter
and
Fight Night Committee began working on the event in the fall of 2003.
Every
new member and active member of the chapter sold $250 dollars in ads
and
some members went beyond that amount. Work began in the fall with the
selection of a Fight Night
Committee which included;
Beau Patrick as
Chairman, Stuart Saunders,
J.J. Waller, Adam
King, David Chance, and
new member Thomas
Debray. Additionally a
most valuable asset to the
committee was Ms. Lee
Ann Wiggins (former KA
Rose) who chaired the
sorority division. During
the beginning of spring
semester, the committee
began working feverishly.
Lee Ann coordinated with
the nine sororities on campus
to ensure their participation
in the event. The
other committee members worked with the active chapter and communicated
constantly with Muscular Dystrophy Association in Memphis.
The event consisted of two days of non-stop fighting. Members of
the
chapter boxed one another representing Ole Miss Sororities that "purchased"
them. Aside from the KA boxing, numerous individuals entered the contest
and the committee was forced to stop people from entering the contest
due to
the fact that we had time limitations. It appeared that all present
enjoyed the
fighting and social atmosphere in the arena, especially several KA
alums who
attended the event.
Kappa Alpha received One
Hundred percent participation
on behalf of all the brothers,
and the committee itself donated
over one hundred hours
of community service in connection
with the event.
The Fight Night Committee
and the chapter would like
to extend a great deal of thanks
to all the individuals who donated
generously to Fight
Night. You generosity allowed
the chapter to raise $61,510 for
the Muscular Dystrophy Association
and the chapter looks
forward to raising that amount
if not more at Fight Night
