The University of Mississippi Taekwondo club was founded November 17, 1992 by Larry Darnell Weeden Jr. This is our 9th year of instruction, operating as a branch of Grandmaster Yoo Jun Saeng founder of Yoo's Authentic Martial Arts located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Our purpose is to spread
the knowledge of this 2,000+ year old Korean martial art. The club
will also help students increase self confidence, self control, lose
weight, stay in shape and most importantly develope a sound mind. The
Head Instructor (Sabumnim) Larry Darnell Weeden Jr., is a certified
yee dan blackbelt with the World Taekwondo Federation (W.T.F.) a member of
the United States Taekwondo Union (U.S.T.U.) and disciplined under the
Honorable Grandmaster (Quanjanim) Yoo Jun Saeng. Grandmaster Yoo Jun
Saeng holds a 9th dan black belt in Hapkido and Kung Fu, and and 8th dan
in Taekwondo from the World Taekwondo Federation(Kuk ki won) in Seoul, Korea. He
is the former President and Chief Master of the Tang-Lang Kung Fu
Headquarters in
Seoul, Korea. Grandmaster Yoo came to the United States from Korea in
1976,
to share his knowledge. Through Grandmaster Yoo's teachings Sabumnim
Weeden will spread the traditional teachings to those interested in
learning
(Taekyon) Taekwondo a Korean martial art. Grandmaster Yoo is also the
Virginia State President of the United States Taekwondo Union!
Since 1993 the University of Mississippi Taekwondo Club was the first and only organization which represented the State of Mississippi under the United States Olympic Commitee.
