
Amnesty International: University of
Mississippi Chapter will endeavor to support the goals of Amnesty International:
- Free
all prisoners of conscience.
- Ensure
fair and prompt trials for all political prisoners.
- Abolish
the death penalty, torture, and other ill treatment of prisoners.
- End
political killings and “disappearances”.
- Ensure
that governments refrain from unlawful killings in armed conflicts.
Along with our goals of the following:
- Oppose
human rights abuses by armed political groups.
- Assist
asylum seekers.
- Work
with non-governmental organizations and the United Nations.
- Ensure
that governments protect human rights.
- Promote
human rights education and awareness.
To ensure that our goals are obtained we will engage in
the following activities:
- Letter
writing (to influence lawmakers, on behalf of victims of human rights
abuses, etc.)
- Lobbying
(trying to influence lawmakers by writing letters, displaying propaganda,
visiting them, etc.)
- Publicity
(making ourselves, our knowledge, and our work known to the public;
visibility)
- Events
/ activities (tables, fundraisers, talks, etc.)
- Education
/ awareness (talks, videos, human rights library, etc.)
