LTC John L. Abruscato

LTC John Abruscato was commissioned in 1985 from the United States Military Academy at West Point as an Infantry Officer. Upon graduation he attended the Infantry Officers Basic Course and Ranger Course. His first assignment was in the 1st Infantry Division (FWD) in the Federal Republic of Germany. He served as platoon leader, anti-armor platoon leader and a company executive officer. In 1989 he attended the Infantry Officer Advanced Course. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Advanced he served in the 6th Ranger Training Battalion at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. He served as a Ranger Platoon Training OIC, Company Commander, and Battalion Supply Officer. In 1992, he served as a Long Range Surveillance Detachment Commander in the 24th Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. From 1993 to 1994, then CPT Abruscato served as a Tactical Officer at the United States Military Academy. In 1994 CPT Abruscato left active duty. From 1996 to 2001 CPT Abruscato served in transportation and civil affairs units in the Army Reserves. In 2003 and 2004 LTC Abruscato served in various capacities in support of the Global War on Terrorism to include training the Free Iraqi Forces prior to the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom and in Iraq conducting civil military operations. LTC Abruscato's most recent assignment prior to assuming the Professor of Military Science position at Ole Miss was Chief Exercise Branch, United States Army Central, Fort McPherson, GA. LTC Abruscato's military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Reserve Achievement Medal, the Overseas Achievement Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal. He has been awarded the Expert Infantry Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Senior Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger Tab. LTC Abruscato is married to Leigh Lester Abruscato since 1991 and they have two children, Lucy and Sam.
